Looking for proofreaders!

Once again, time is passing by too quickly! Luckily, we’re not stagnating for all that: Chronotopia‘s demo is in fact available for patrons pledging 10$ per month since a little more than a week. There are still 2 illustrations missings, as well as the 3D camera and the last element of gameplay, to be able to publicly release the definitive version but the game is still playable from start to finish. So, if you’re motivated and ready to help us, don’t hesitate to send a mail to be able to test Chronotopia and report to us both gramatical mistakes and bugs!

The end of the tunnel?!?

Truly, things happen to me all the time! Back from Japan Expo, my laptop suddenly failed me, which puts me in a difficult position to finish Chronotopia‘s demo (here’s a summary of everything we have so far) and launch the Kickstarter campaign. However, there is no way I’m going to take forced vacations, I will do my best to minimize the damage. I will simply be even slower than usual to reply to messages and I apologize in advance for that X).

The introduction of the Princess (Donkeyskin)

KS chara mini (Kionna)After quite the unbearable wait, I’m finally able to introduce Chronotopia’s heroine: Kionna, alias Donkeyskin. In the original, she was already a victim worthy of a Greek tragedy and we accentuated that aspect for our rewriting of the tale. And, as with the fairy, we wanted to disrupt the traditional codes and chose to make a princess of color, which is still surprisingly rare.

The King’s introduction

KS chara mini (King2)Let’s not lose our new habits and keep on doing Chronotopia’s introductions! For a change, I’ve decided to focus on a male character: the old king. He’s sadly an eerie figure from which the heroine is trying to escape (and that’s understandable).

If everything goes according to plan, I should be able to show you our version of Donkeyskin next time. Just as with the fairy, we wanted to put our personal touch on the tale so I can’t wait to introduce her!

The Fairy’s introduction

KS chara mini (Fairy2)Last time we were in a transition period and I’m very glad to announce that, in a mere week, the progress of Chronotopia’s demo took a turn for the better! Since Anako did complete some sprites, let’s keep on introducing the characters with the princess’ godmother: the Fairy. Very little is known about her but one thing is sure: she doesn’t look like what we usually picture as fairies.

Nahima’s introduction (and progress on the demo)

KS chara mini (Nahima2)How time flies! Before getting down to business, here’s a quick review of the state of completion of Chronotopia’s demo:

  • As I’ve said on the team monthly newsletter and on my weekly report available on Patreon, PyriteKite has finished all of the backgrounds and she’s now giving us a hand by proofreading the translation which is 70% done, with 65% edited (and soon integrated into the game). Music-wise, Butterfly Tea has finished all of his tracks and is now tackling the extra ones.
  • Melow is getting to 50% of her CGs and Anako is about to complete all the sprites of the main characters, except for the princess who’s going to take more time since she has many outfits.

Climbing a mountain

We have been rather silent those last few weeks, especially because we were busy with making the big giveaway. Incidentally, I want to thank all the entrants while I’m at it!

The other reason is that there isn’t much to say about Chronotopia’s production in itself. We’re progressing. Too slowly to our taste, but we’re progressing. Apart from showing some WIP from time to time, it’s difficult to be more relevant. Even though, I will try to briefly review the state of completion of the demo!

Tutorial: How to do a cloud animation with RenPy

Lately, there’s a talking point that keeps coming back, be it on Twitter or Patreon: background animation. Indeed, that’s something I especially like to do since a few years, as I consider it to be a really interesting tool when it comes to immersing the reader in a particular world. Of course, it’s not adapted to every situation: I think it works pretty well for rich universes (fantasy, for example) but not so much with contemporary settings. But, if well done and accompanied by some music, the result can be quite impressive! (I’m personally very proud of what we managed to do on Chronotopia :3)

Chronotopia Teaser: as you can see, we focus a lot on animations
